Probably because our culture relies on peer pressure for appropriate behavior. So, if your friend threw something, society would say that you condone or agree with his actions. Because it would be more important for your friend to look good in your eyes and have a friendship with you than to be rude and throw something and have you get all in his face and disappointed in him.
So, that being said, it is likely that you in one way or another, actually support him throwing those things.
