i am a contractor in California and I've recently been working in some section 8 apartments. the people that live there are very nice people and also very poor, my heart went out to them. i can see why a lot of people feel we should dump tons of government money into places like this, but i don't think it's the right thing to do.

im a christian first then a regan conservative. jesus said helping the poor, orphans, and children is true religon. i feel it's the churches job to feed and house these people through the donations of its members out of a servants heart.
the government should not be in these neighborhoods because free money produces crime, a lack of strong work ethic and character. it is also generationaly binding. if you give an animal free food all the time it will eventualy become lazy and will not find its own food. if you then remove the food the animal dies. do you understand?

Same reason politicans spend money on anything else...it's an attempt to buy votes.

And you're correct....There's much more to 'helping' poor people that just throwing money at them...merely handing out money won't solve anything. Over six TRILLION dollars in transfer payments (i.e. taking money from people who work and produce and giving it to people who don't ) over the last 30 years hasn't eliminated poverty... and it never will. All it does is create dependency... and that's really the goal of liberal politicians...make people dependent on the politicans for their very existence.

Did you get the impression that the people you mentioned, the people in the Section 8 housing, were they criminals, were they lazy?

I think you should read your Bible more often and live it. Do you understand that Christ does not want you to adopt the central doctrine of the Romans, but to treat all people as brothers and sisters and to stop the exploitive part of society and to give to the poor. Man... Do YOU understand?

Think of the many people who have helped you out along the way... these people were just less lucky than you and you should be ashamed to fault them for that. Not even animals take more than they need they do share, some animals adopt the offspring of others who have died. You should become a foster parent. But I imagine that you think those kids are immoral and lazy too.

wow really shocking, a Christian, this is the problem, you have lost sight and defied God and I am sure in some way you will pay for that and for this post... maybe you should take it down, as a fellow Christian I would like you to.

I completely understand and I agree with you for the most part. I agree that the government should not "prop up" people and people should not become solely dependent on the government to meet their most basic needs. I think churches and other charitable organizations should try to help these people, but at the same time, people will still abuse these organizations just as they do the government. I have no problem helping those people who cannot help themself, but I do have a problem funding someone for their entire life when they are more than capable of working and making a living for themself. Interesting thoughts.....

I agree with you 100% I think it's to bribe the poor into voting for Democrats. The Democrats have substituted national wealth for votes and an overall worsening of conditions they claim they want to fix. The more poor people getting free government handouts, the more votes the Democrats get, thus the poorer the nation as a whole gets. Feeding the poor should be done at church.

if we spent it on education it might be less necessary to spend it on social programs.

the social programs are a bandaid for the problem of unequal access to resources and education. i cannot remove the bandaid without some attention paid to the wound it was put over. i feel that the government bears a responsibility to its people.

there was crime and poverty before there was america, it is not the government producing the people who are dependent on it. jesus did not say the government should not help the people who depend upon it. i have faith that we can live up to his expectations if we aid each other.

I think you are not functioning on all your cylinders!

How much profit did you and others make? You want the churches to pay for them while you pocket all the money!

That is a Republican tradition! That is why there are poor people!!!

Give a man a fish and feed him for one day, teach a man to fish feed him for a lifetime. It still rings true.
