I don't think there are any well known cases of this. Generally speaking, people know that horses are capable of harming humans. If a person is injured or killed by a horse, it's often due to human negligence. If you are interacting with a stallion, you are putting yourself in danger, especially if you're inexperienced. Many things can trigger dangerous behaviour in an animal that size. Usually, the animal isn't blamed...as horses aren't known to attack without a reasonable explanation. The owner could be sued if the injured party was just visiting, but I doubt they'd put the horse down for something like that unless the animal was repeatedly violent for no reason, indicating a mental disorder.

I am an animal rights person. But hold on keep reading. IF the horse killed a man, and the horse was a mean horse and ment to harm him the yes. IF the horse did it by accident or if the guy fell of it then NO. There are many things to take in to account. Personaly if the the animal is a harm to any one or its self. then action needs to be taken!!! If any one is offended by this comment then I am sorry.

I actually worked on one horse farm years ago where a stallion killed a groom, the farm manager shot and killed the stallion in his stall 5 minutes later, and he was taken to court for destruction of property! (Poor groom kid never had a chance.) Court found him not guilty, put it in the same catagory of putting down a mad dog.
The only other one I've heard of was a lady in the NW that was drug to death by her Arabian after getting tangled up in the lunge line. Her case was heard in court but not the way you are thinking.. it was to settle the estate. The heirs wanted to sell the damn thing for the money and the husband wanted to kill it. Judge ruled it was the property of the estate and had to be sold.

Strange, but you don't want to hear from the ONE group that could probably help you the most with your question. They DO keep up on ALL cases regarding animals. Try using the word EQUINE in the place of HORSE & your research area will broaden. Also try AGRICULTURAL LIVESTOCK.
