Whats wrong with being sleepy on the train, unless you really like the view...
Anyway perhaps you should bring some music with you like an MP3 player or something, a book which can hold your interest, or maybe you should hope to meet somebody on the train that you can talk to which will keep you awake.
I don't know your interestes but I just bought the coolest book from my local bookstore called the bathroom book.
Its like 2000 pages and it gives the coolest history and bios of famous people including presidents, writers, authors, musicians, and many other things. It also gives overviews of many famous novels and books which are considered to be great such as Will Shakes. the Tempest and many many other things that would keep me occupied on a train...

Sleep early the night before, have alot of cofe or what not through out the day and stay warm and entertained. Personally I stay up all night the night before so i can sleep the whole ride...
