They either put no thought into their questions, and answer to just get the lousy 2 points. But for what purpose? If you're not really answering questions, you're just wasting time. If they don't answer with something nonsensical, then they berate you: you ask a question, they respond by calling you an idiot. Though this problem could have its roots in the American public education system, I'm not sure. There seem to be a lot of cantankerous old retirees on the verge of senility answering these questions, too; why?
Has this Yahoo Answers thing actually given anybody any useful information or advice?

Correct grammar and punctuation are always greatly appreciated! Some can't because English wasn't their first language, and I totally understand. But if English is your FIRST language, you're calling me cranky and pessimistic, AND you're the product of an American public school education, then you've only proven my point.
