Be sure you have a Gastroenterologist you absolutely trust!!!! Since you are in the medical field, this should be easier to find than someone who is not. The GI doc can help you with a diet and the proper meds as well as catch those ulcers before they become cancerous. If you need a guide on how to choose a good doctor, I highly recommend a book I bought last month called "Healthcare for Less" by Michelle Katz. It breaks down the process and has a chart you can use to help make that decision as well as websites to find the most qualified doctor in your area....the book is about saving money in healthcare, but the section on choosing a doctor is also fantastic!!!!!

Blaming it on stress is obvious. Eating is the culprit which angers your system which the food has pepper type spices in it..Italian sauces are usually too spicy....Determine what is causing your ulcers and change that happening or occuring..It can be and usually is something which angers you, riles you or upsets you in many ways...The answer has to be made by yourself...Medicos can spend many thousands of bucks prescribing meds that have been around many years and many others are cheaper...Don't rule out milk and byproducts as one of the aggravating elements...The end result can turn up as a very painful ulcer perforation and Docs cutting out portions of your stomach..This cure is drastic and does not give total relief...(Been there, done that three times).Ulcers have been called "Healthy Man's Disease" and hits people with the "A" personality...They don't eat right!hey worry about yesterday. They take their jobs home with them. They want everyone to love them, which is a dream. They usually have gripes about things which have aggravated them forever. They think Doctors will cure them with new drugs...THe drugs do not alter the thing that caused the ulcers in the first place...Drugs cost so much that most Docs who aren't taking in a million a year prescribe newbies based on what the travelling drug company seller tells them...Just get rid of your hates, gripes and aggravations...If you want to get better...........Think positive and like more of life.

I had to take Nexium or something like it for more than one course before I felt better. Even now, about a year later I still have to watch the acidic/spicy stuff or my stomach hurts, but it is much better than it was. Be careful about drinking too much or taking anti-inflammatories (advil, aspirin, aleve). They can cause flare ups or in the case of anti-inflammatories additional ulcers. As for foods, avoid acid things like tomatoes and citrus and watch spice like cayenne pepper or hot chilies. If you find out what your triggers are and watch those foods it really helps.

were you supposed to renew your Rx for the nexium? it reduces acid production, therefore it gives your stomach lining the proper environment to heal. i would continue to take it on a long-term basis.
stay away from foods that are very spicy - dairy helps to coat the stomach, so milk, yogurt and the like may help.
also, find an outlet for your stress - exercise, yoga, hobbies, whatever. good luck!
