As far as I know, you can only do this if you have system restore on your computer. Prior to downloading anything new, go to programs, accessories, systems, system restore. Type in the box "prior to downloading_____." The computer will set the time and date at that point. Then if anything goes wrong with the download, you can restore your computer to that time and date. Sometimes they will automatically set a time and date and you can restore your computer to any of the dates in bold. I have a HP Windows ME and it has system restore on it.

It's not too hard and takes about 5 to 10 minutes. If you are running Windows XP, click Start>Control Panel>Performance and Maintenance. Then in the upper left hand corner you should see System Restore. Click that and a calendar will appear. Select the date you want to restore to, click OK. You're computer will restart with what it looked like on the day you restored to.

Ours has the option to restore the computer to a prior date. I think it is under 'my computer' and then security and maintenance.
