It's just legend after legend with Babe Ruth to Lou Gehrig to Joe D'Maggio to Mickey Mantle to Reggie Jackson to Derek Jeter. It's almost unbelievable. Don't you think?
No answers from jealous fans of inferior teams please.

Miamiman,
I realize I could have put many other names as legends like Ford, Maris, Larsen, Chesbro, Dickey, Berra, Munson, etc.. But for you to say that Reggie Jackson does not belong among them shows your lack of knowledge. You're pobably too young to have seen Reggie and are just going narrow-mindedly on his carreer reg. season stats. Even still, you must have seen his carreer 563 HR, which is a higher total than the great Mickey Mantle.
But, what really makes this slugger a legend was his ability to carry teams to the WS and then perform at a whole new level once he got there. During his 6 seasons with the Yanks he brought them to 3 WS and won 2. In his 27 career WS games he batted .357 with a .755 slug.
Yes, he may be a career .262 hitter with alot of K's. But his average was very respectable before he played the last 5 of his 21 seasons. And if you saw him play, you realize most his K's during meanless AB. Yanks 286 274 297 300 237 no lead in K

I don't know if EVERYONE is in awe of the greatest team in professional sports, but I know that I am, and have been for a long, long time.
Think about it, how many fathers have named their sons after Yankee players? MANY! If/When I have a son, I plan on giving him a middle name of Derek (I promised my father that I would name my first son after him and his father, and that's the only reason that my son's first name would not be Derek).
You don't necessarily hear those same things being said about other teams, do you?

If the Kansas City Royals or the Pittsburgh Pirates had the spending power of the Yankees, they would be as good too.
No offense is intended to the Royals or Pirates. They are simply small market teams that can not compete with the super rich like the Yankees.
As for the "old time" Yankees even had a larger advantage over other teams. Before revenue sharing and salary caps, the Yankees could out spend anyone to get all the players they wanted.
This year, the Yankees are not even the best team from New York...GO METS!!!!!

The Yankees have deep pockets and super media market.
That's why management can field great teams.
However, the Tigers are great, too. They're payroll isn't anywhere near the Yankees, yet the Tigers have stayed on top all season.
Sometimes, you can spend lots of money and still not buy a World Series Pennant.
I am not jealous- just telling the truth.

NO...The Yankees Suck and are ruining baseball.
They might as well go on tour as the Harlem Globetrotters of Baseball and let the rest of the league have some fair competition.
I hate the Yankees and refuse to watch them, live or on TV.
If there is news about them, I change the channel.
Hopefully others will do the same thing and eventually this media circus behind the most rigged and overpaid team will stop focusing on them.

Its true, but part of the reason that there have been so many legends is that being on the most winning team (Post-season) in history makes them "better" than they really were. Many players are not known despite their huge success (Nap Lajoie, Christy Mathewson, etc.) because they were on other organizations. Plus I would have put Whitey Ford instead of Reggie Jackson on your Yankee legends list (Career record holder in strikeouts and .260 lifetime batting avg. makes him a one dimensional homerun hitter and hardly and all-time great).

Come on..the history of the Yankees with Ruth, Mantel and Jackson was special.. It's over. The Yankees now won't make it to the World Series. The American League is too strong. They have to beat the Tigers, then the White Sox. Good Luck !!!!

The only thing that impresses me about the Yankee's is how for the past 100 years they've outspent every team in baseball in procurring players. No wonder they've won 27 World Series.

They're good, but they're spending too much money. I don't have a problem with them spending money, but it might catch up with them down the road. As for Jeter, he is doing great this year and has always been a great player. We'll see if he can get the MVP award this year.
