Actually your site has a Google Page Rank (PR) of 3 out of 10, which is not bad. It's better than average for a non-corporate site. It means that Google has indexed your site and considers it to have content that's reasonably useful.
As for ranking high in the search results when someone is searching for content like yours (SEO), the best source by far that I've seen is a site called SEO 20/20.
They really tell it like it is. No fluff, no exaggeration. Instead of trying to summarize what you have to do, I'll just advise you to get over there and read everything carefully.
I've also listed under Sources a page of comparative reviews of some SEO products that may be helpful.

Well I was able to verify that yardhopper.com has definitely been crawled and indexed by google, so I'm not real sure what's causing your rank problems. Could be for any of a number of reasons. I'm no SEO expert so instead of spouting a bunch of half-baked suppositions I'll just throw a link at you instead. Check this article out, it may hold the keys to some of your questions regarding SEO.

Hi
You do in fact have a Google PR3 (probebly happened after you posted your question).
Your on page optimisation is not brilliant. Search engines read your pages top to bottom, left to right, and the first thing they are looking for is relevant content, usually in the form of the H1 tag.
Off page, you have 59 backlinks, the highest being a PR6, many being in the form of press releases, and classified ads, therefore one way links which is good.
You show up with 84 pages in Alexa, and traffic rank 798,368.

have you submitted your site to any search engines? Sites do not automatically show up in search engines, you have to submit them. The there are things that the search engines look for, such as content, meta tags, links to your page from other sites etc etc etc.. in order to rank at all you have to have some of these things.

Another thing you might not have tried is Google Sitemap - it is a new feature from Google that helps ensure that your site gets indexed.
