A very interesting animal, african descendants are. Especially more recent darkskinned ones. There is a lot more territorialism, a lot more testosterone, to put into play. The culture is that of survival and overcoming an enemy and usually that oppression, when not coming from an outside stimulus usually naturally reacts within their own grouping due to the territorialism of the innate drives possessed therein.

African Americans do sometimes seem like their own worst enemy. But, we can not deny history. It bothers me when people make light of slavery and injustice. The insituion of slavery will leave its painful mark on African Americans forever. Just as Sept 11 affected the nation (even though we were not there). The healing process long and is nowhere near over. Racism and more importantlu discrimination is still very much alive in our nation's institutions. Until people learn history, enbrace it and do something in order change the unfair institutions, attitudes of African Americans and the nation as a whole will remain the same.

Yes racism still exists today and sadly will probably never go away because it is passed from generation to generation. Blacks were taken from native lands and forced into labor under white racist rule by the same families that hold most of the worlds wealth and power today. These same families control the images that are shown on tv, played on radios, and printed in most papers. Not to mention how mentally trying and difficult it is to live in a society that preaches 'equality for all' but in reality practices something completely different. This subliminal conditioning has been going on for centuries and still continues today-for instance- if 'black' is so bad and scary, why is the culture the most imitated ever? Music, dress styles, speech patterns, and physical mannerisms. Also, the recent trends in cosmetic surgery- bigger lips, bigger butts, and even penile implants! African -Americans are not their own worst enemy-racist society is. Does anyone notice how many celebs of color gradually begin to look more and more Caucasian as their fame increases? The hair starts to gets and blonder, accents dissappear and even features begin to change through surgery, to succeed in America-you have to assimilate to the powers that be or you don't fit in.

I understand what you are saying and in some instances you are correct. African-American people are harder on themselves with old practices still in play undcover like the paperbag test or just people plain angry for no reason. Some of the things to me are ligitimate but I also feel that sometimes we can't always play the victum. It is a very interesting and difficult issue....
But this is a very good question :)

While I do sometimes think that African Americans are there worst enemy, but I also have to say that most blacks who feel oppressed are angry and they can't do anything to the man or lack direction on how to attack the system (goverment) and they lash out at whats closest to them - other black folk.
But let me ask you this, how would you feel if the majority of the people were afraid of you, think of you as being a bad person? How would you feel if you had no connection to your heratige. Most blacks come form slaves, not by immigration as most americans who come here. Blacks were sold off from their families. that would make me mad too.
Again, I understand where you are coming from with your statement, but I caution you to see it through our eyes as well.

African Americans tend to put the blame on slavery of their great-great-great-grandparents. That has nothing to do with today. Everyone has the same chance if you get an education, don't have children out of wed lock, don't commit crimes, live an honest life. That goes for blacks and whites.

Good Question!
Even laboratory mice will turn on each other when there are not enough available resources to sustain their lives.
