Linksys wireless router is reliable and simple. XP is the easiest windows interface to use. Stick with the standard wireless configurations options. Remember to set up disks and folders as "shared" within a workgroup. Manually add all your PCs to a Workgroup right click My Computer - Properties then choose Computer Name. If you have problems accessing files from one machine to another turn off any proprietary extra firewalls then ensure you bring them in to your "trusted zone".

You need a router, a wireless pci card for your desktop or a wireless PCMIA card for your Laptop all of which can be bought at best buy. I recommend Linksys products personally because their customer service is excellent and so is their product. I also recommend a wireless G product because it is and will be the standard for the next year or so.

I have a WRT54G Router, and a WMP54GS for my Desktop and they are GREAT!

You just need two USB WIFI. That's the thing you only need!

If you want a wireless LAN, then configure both as AD-HOC.

If one is already on LAN/Internet and you need to get also the other on Internet, you need a proxy server like FREEPROXY (the easiest one).
