hey does anybody know how the President "runs" foreign policy and an example of when the President had the last deciding vote when it came to foreign policy???

So many opinions without fact to back them up! This may clarify things a bit.

The officially stated goals of U.S. foreign policy, repeatedly mentioned and emphasized by U.S. officials are:

* Protecting the safety and freedom of all American citizens, both within the United States and abroad;
* Protecting allied nations of the United States from attack or invasion and creating mutually beneficial international defense arrangements and partnerships to ensure this;
* Promotion of peace, freedom (most notably of speech and enterprise), and democracy in all regions of the world;
* Furthering free trade, unencumbered by tariffs, interdictions and other economic barriers, and furthering capitalism in order to foster economic growth, improve living conditions everywhere, and promote the sale and mobility of U.S. products to international consumers who desire them; and
* Bringing developmental and humanitarian aid to foreign peoples in need.

Bear that in mind when thinking we "invade" other countries. Also remember that those who consider our president as ignorant either aren't old enough to vote, didn't encourage others to vote, or simply DON'T vote.

Both the President and Congress have a role in foreign policy. The President and his administration (including the State Department) represent the country and manage the affairs of state (trade, immigration, diplomacy, etc) and defense (military matters)

However, Congress must approve all treaties and declares war. Congress all appropriates funding, so they also have a big role in how foreign aid is provided and how military assets are pruchased and deployed.

Foreign Policy is run by the STATE DEPARTMENT which is part of the executive office

If a Sec of State Disagrees with Pres they resign
