I am interested in how much power a determined U.S president would have over the 'military industrial complex' and foreign policy, and how much ability an environmentally minded president would have to enact environmental change.

People say you should respect the President, well I say you should respect the V. President of the United States as well. Gore serve his time for our government and he is pursueing a great cause for our planet, those who talk ill of him are probably also those who covet other people oil.

But to answer your question, Gore would not have been very effective as President, not becuase he is not capable but he would still have to face a Republican ruled Congress and they would hinder him as much as possible. Although 9/11 would still have happened, they probably started planning it during the Clinton administration, we would probably still go to war with Afghanistan. Iraq would never happen though, any sane President knows not to start up something else UNTIL the first war was done. Also Iraq would not a threat, if they were, we would have bombed them but not invaded them. N. Korea would not be a threat, as they are right now because under the Carter Accord, they would have gotten what they want. And Iran might be a totally different place and definitely would not be seeking to build a possible nuclear arsenal. When you name three countries out as being evil, then invade one if them, what do you think you would have done if you were the other two countries? Yes, build up your defenses to deter the evil empire from coming after you, seriously put yourself in their shoes. The whole nuclear crisis in N. Korea and Iran is Bush fault and no one elses. Not a perfect scenerio as 9/11 would have still occurred but better than where we are today. Oh yeah, the national debt wouldn't be as high either and Osama would be rotting in a US prison cell.

Assuming he was briefed as Bush was-- that Al Qaeda intent on using planes as WMD's -- 9/11 may not have happened.

If it did, we would still likely have gone into Afghanistan either as an Army or in stealth mode to get UBL.

We probably would not have gone into Iraq but still have a policy of containment.

We would not likely have done much on the environmental front except for maybe CAFE and a few other things to reduce emissions. But nothing major.

Taxes probably would not have been cut like Bush has.

And as assumed above, if 9/11 didn't happen, the economy wouldn't have gone into as big a recession so tax cuts would not have been needed as much.

Of course this is all blue-sky speculation.... who knows. Reality is, Bush did get elected twice and we have the mess we do.

If Al Gore were elected President, terrorists would be blowing up day care center, malls, and schools in the United States. At the same time, the President, (Gore) would be preaching to the citizens of the United States that we should try and understand the anger of the terrorists, and why they feel the need to do what they do.

In a nutshell, we would be in a world of sh*t.

The USA would have signed the Kyoto Treaty, we would never have gone into Iraq and Osama Bin Laden would be dead or imprisoned by now.

Yeah, we would certainly not be in Iraq, he would have caught Osama Bin Laden, kids would not be getting Asthma at the rates they are now, and more people would have health insurance, unlike the millions that lost it under Bush.

VOTE THIS NOVEMBER.

none at all, it is all political, and they can't really fix the problems since that cures the people who are the victims and they loose thier power base.

Also the cost on the enconomy would be too large and they know they can't do it anyway, but it makes good campaign talk

If Dick Chaney wasn't president, we wouldn't be in Iraq and Katrina would have been taken seriously.

.. I think we wouldn't be in Iraq and the environmental policy would be drastically different... if he could get it passed in congress... which I don't know about...

... I'm waiting on all the "we'd all be wearin' turbins" comments... oh look there they are... but it's "camels"... nice...
