No benefits. It would bring up alot of problems and imbalance to the Earth. Moreover, the bits and pieces of the Moon would come down to Earth. So, no point. Why do you want to destroy the Moon? It's a good thing we have light when it's at night.

No benefit WHATSOEVER. The moon supposedly keeps our planet tilted so we can have seasons, keeps water out of most of our cities, gives light at night.... Most important, it protects us from asteroids. Many asteroids hit the moon instead of us. How would you feel if 100-yard wide asteroids keep coming down every hour, not including all the other smaller asteroids? Also, what happens to the parts of the moon when it's blown up? Some MUST come down to earth. Nothing gets vaporised like those in Star Wars.

Actually after the falling debris, the lack of light and tides would suck quite a bit. So there is really no benefit... unless you really hate being seen under the soft light of a full moon and are willing to put up with the devistating side effects.
