I used to work as a technician at an upscale club that had a full bowling alley. I was chatting with the hostesses when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a kid standing in the middle of the bowling lane farthest from me. I was about to go yell at his drunk hipster parents when I noticed, further down the lane, there was ANOTHER kid, laying on his stomach and pulling himself down toward the pins. He was about five feet away from them.

I took off sprinting across nine lanes of irritated bowlers, baseball-slid up to the kid, grabbed him by the pant leg, and ripped him backwards away from the pins. He was inches from tripping the infrared sensor that would have caused the 20-pound wood-and-steel pin sweep to drop onto the back of his head.

All I felt was scared and angry. The kid could have been easily killed or paralyzed because nobody was watching or giving a damn about him, and it would have been on my watch.

Twice that I recall, once as a kid my brother had followed me out into the deep of a lake. Neither of us could swim, but I could still just barely reach the bottom.

the other time was in a crowded pool. a kid was in full panic mode in the shallow end of the pool because he was so young he couldn't reach even there. I was all the way across at the deep end and noticed him. I wasn't sure he was in trouble till I had wandered about half way to him.

I felt kind o' numb emotionally after both incidents. I think there are more close calls in our lives than anybody realizes. Choking, panic swerving away from a kid or idiot, etc.,

Yes I did. I saved about 15 people from being killed by an explosion.

I sniffed a huge gas leak that was coming from some old beach cottages. The fire department showed up and told me that the leak was major. One spark would have destroyed the cottages away.
