well...my dad is a dentist, i am preggo right now, and it depeneds on the dentist. it is usually safe to do most things. ROUTINE CLEANING IS SAFE! NO MATTER WHAT U HEAR IT IS! I just had mine done a few weeks ago and my dad would never allow anything to come in harms way of me or the baby! you just need to ask your dentist or warn them that your expecting. another thing is that xray machines can be harmful to you and the baby....but this depends on the equipment that is used by the dentist, my dads equipment is safe to use while expecting, but i still made sure that i had to of the gown things draped across me. it is very important to get ur teeth taken care of right now, gum disease and other problems can cause premature birth and other health problems to you and the baby!

The only things you need to worry about are x-rays and certain drugs. The dentist should know what to avoid. You can also have fillings done while you are pregnant. It's good to see a dentist while you are pregnant because pregnancy can do some bad things to your teeth. It's better to try and prevent if possible than to lose all your teeth.

I was told by my dentist that I had a cavity several months before I got pregnant. Six weeks into my pregnancy, it started to hurt. I contacted my dentist & told him I was pregnant but I had a cavity. Luckily for me, it was small enough to be filled with no medication. So therefore, I dont think anything was bad of it if no meds were involved. If I would've waited, it may have turned into a root canal!

Sorry, most of the time it is not recommended to have your teeth cleaned while pregnant, because it causes bacteria to enter your body at a break-neck speed. If you are having problems with cavities, it's a different story. Brush your teeth, floss and take your prenatal vitamins. Babies take alot of calcium out of your system and your teeth will suffer after he/she is born. I just would stay away from teeth cleaning for now! Good Luck!

Yes. I've heard of that. You should only get cleaning done because you don't want radiation to the baby if you get x-rays and usually if you have to get dental work done it requires a numbing shot and/or pain pills and/or antibiotics and you shouldn't have all those things while you're pregnant. Use mouthwash and floss a lot. Good luck!

Call the pregnancy exposure riskline ...I called with questions of my own and they have professional people there to inform you on things such as x-rays, medicines, drugs, chemical and alcohol exposure ....I spoke with them and the lady said she gets hundreds of call everyday about x-rays ..and that amount of radiation coming from like a dentist office is very very small...you would have to be exposed alot in one day to hurt a pregnancy...no matter how far along you are. Call it will make you feel alot better about seeing a dentist.

True.
Xrays and Drugs...are both bad for babies...hello??
If you do insist on going to the dentist...make sure you tell him FIRST ...like while you're making the appointment...that you are infact pregnant...so that they can take the proper precautions

I've heard of it. You don't want to have extensive teeth work done. Its recommended that you get you teeth cleaned because you gums tend to bleed and swell up when your pregnant cause more food to get trapped.

Yes it is true because when your pregnant they will not take an x-ray on you. Because of the possibility of birth defects...
