I am babysitting over the weekend, and I just wanted to be sure.

as a mother of a colicky baby i understand that taking care of a crying baby can be trying, however, NEVER NEVER shake a baby or a child. if you need to ask such a question then you are not qualified to watch any children!! sometimes a baby will just cry to cry and they should not be punished in any way. do the parents know you are asking a stupid question like this?? why don't you ask them what they think?? furthermore, in most states you can leave a baby or child at steps of a hospital, police station, or fire department with no questions asked!!!!!!!!!!

You don't shake a baby, you should not be allowed near children if you have to ask that question!!!!!!!!
Don't even shake them a little! Go to the Red Cross and sign up for a babysitting class and do not go near a kid until after that.

why is flip is every body saying all that he just asked a question he didn't say "hey I'm shaking a baby when should i stop?" so back up and stop acting like hes a dumb *** just don't shake the baby and if it cries call the closest person to u i get so pissed i ken just walk away and leave a baby alone some times

Zero. There is no need to shake a baby. If you are playing, then rocking and swaying is more than enough. No tossing, no flinging, no microwaving.
Perhaps you should consider petsitting first.

I have heard that simly throeing a baby in the air, playfully, can be enough for some infants
