The lengths of the sides of a quadrilateral are consecutive even integers. Twice the length of the shortest side plus the length of the longest side is 120 inches. Find the lengths.

Ok that was the problem, the instructions are -- Make a diagram to represent each situation. Then define a variable, write an equation, and solve each problem. Check your solution.

I can make the diagram and solve the problem, i just need to know equation.

A = L B=L+1

and
2L+L+1=120

assume lengths for each side:
2a-4
2a-2
2a
2a+2
so,
2(2a-4) + (2a+2) = 120
a=21
integers are 38,40,42,44
