Can you provide an example of a company that focused on a medium instead of a concept and became extinct?

I'm looking for companies that banked on railroads instead of transportation, the gramaphone instead of music, etc. I'm looking for both the companies that failed and the companies that grew because they focused on a larger concept then a particular technology.
