Hi. The inner shell. Electrons in this shell have a tighter bond to the nucleus. Helium's inner shell has two electrons and that's why it is so stable chemically.

Is is s followed p, d, f each can "hold" a different number of electrons (of course they shift depending on energy introduced)

Valence shell, if memory serves me is the outer shell of any given atom (hence names like co-valent bonds)
