Ok, I know that sounds harsh...but I could care less. I'm not talking about every sex offender, but those who are completely guilty (perhaps w/ DNA evidence, or several charges). If the sex drive is taken away, it would greatly decrease the likelyhood of repeat offenses. The molested never truly get to have a "normal" sex life again. I'm just so sick of all the pervs out there, and I just wish the punishment fit the crime.

No testosterone = no agression...think of the euncuhs of latter days...not much of a threat.

Unfortunately, everyone above is incorrect in one aspect; it is against federal and international law to castrate anyone as a punishment. Not only does it constitute torture, which is illegal internationally, but it violates a fundamental human right, that is, the right to reproduce.

It is a human right, as determined by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a declaration that the U.S. has signed in agreement, that every human possesses the right to reproduce, and that that right can never be taken from them. I agree that something has to be done; but we can't violate human rights to prevent child molestation. Everyone has a right to reproduce, that's international law. Why do you think so much fuss is being made about China, where some people aren't allowed to reproduce, and those that are can't have more than one child?

I think that a vasectomy would be more appropriate.

Vasectomy can be done to all repeat offenders while they are in prison. This would have a similar testosterone-limiting effect to castration. Then, once they leave prison, they follow a strict set of rules that restrict them from entering schools and amusement parks, or other areas with a high concentration of children. After five or six years of being a good citizen, the vasectomy can be reversed, and they can now reproduce at their leisure. After 5 or 6 years of not molesting children even though they are free and in the outside world, I think we can trust the former child molesters to leave our kids alone.

What do you think? I think it's a great alternative to your idea, although it still follows the concept you laid out.

i think all child molesters and rapists should ALL be castrated if proven guilty, no questions asked. don't do the crime if you can't do the time or in this matter sentence. i also wish the punishment fit the crime. if you are found guilty of a murder or whatever, you need to be taken care of the exact same way. meaning, if you stabbed someone to death, then that is your punishment. i think it would make a lot of criminals think twice before doing something like that, let alone reduce all the people on death row that'll never get off of there and are costing tax payers money.

YES!!! BTW: Without as much testosterone in their system they aren't likely to be as agressive so to reply to people who are saying that they would just become more violent, or lead to different forms of violence it is very unlikely. ALSO...I think that there should be tougher sentences for sex offenders - probation or two years for someone who brutally rapes a woman or child is not enough. I'm not sure that there is any effective way to "rehabilitate" men like this. Time and time again they become repeat offenders and turn to murder as a way to cover up their crimes. SOMETHING MUST BE DONE!

Harsh? No I do not think it is too harsh. I feel so many kids are stalked by repeat offenders. I feel that they should undergo the chemical casteration and any other psycho altering that could work. I have heard of a mental adversion type of therapy. I feel that if anything will work it should be done. The children have the right to be safe from these animals. Also it would give perpetrators time to remove themselves from the evil.

I agree with you. I think something majorly should be done about these perves. There should be a severe law and action in this type of case. If somebody is guilty of hurting somebody in this matter they should have those bodies parts removed and have some kidn of urinal bag or piping or something in place so that they can still urinate. But they should be forced to live the rest of their lives without their sexual organs.

you know, my dad was sent to prison. not for molestation or anything, it was a white collar crime. here's the thing though: i don't think he did it. i can't prove that to anyone, not even myself... and it isn't just because he's my dad. the money he was supposed to have taken never appeared, and now it has been 20 years.

this is why i can't go ahead with your idea. it is because our justice system is flawed. i have met so many people now and heard so many stories that i cannot stomach the death penalty at all. draconian measures are only appropriate in perfect systems. i can't pretend we have one, and a system that castrates innocent men is not better than one that fails to protect children. that is a terrible choice to present.

Actually, sex offenders who are chemically castrated still commit sex crimes. It's not the sex drive, it's an obsessive power thing that's causing them to do what they do. This applies to both rapists and pedophiles. It's in their heads, not their reproductive organs.

Castration would only cause deeper mental pains for these ( i hate to refer to them as) people. As much satisfaction s this would give us, they will become even more of a terror as they will feel the need for vindication of their situation. I suggest a harsher sentence without parole. We also must create cities of refuge for these people. They need to able to return to society, but remove temptation from their path and we will all be safer.

Good Luck with the chopping block!!!

I think castration is a little too nice for them actually. How about they get tortured for about two to three months then put to death. I think thats a little closer to fair, but hey that sounds kinda harsh.

This is a really good questions. I honestly don't think it will help someone who is determined to harm a child.. I think they need to be put away in jail for a very long time away from children and society.
