Yes, Damon's is ok and probably has more locations in the metro-area and in the state for that matter than either Famous Dave's or Texas Road House. Actually, I wasn't aware Texas Road House even had ribs, because I always get the steak (and I haven't been there in some time). I second Famous Dave's as my favorite bbq-place in the (northern)Detroit suburbs and I think the only two locations in Michigan are in Roseville on the East side and in Rochester for the Northern/Western suburbs; Damon's definitely has more locations around Detroit and Michigan. There are also places like Chili's, Applebee's etc. all across the metro area (and the state) that have ribs (but don't really specialize in bbq per se) and offer a wider menu. I'd suggest Bone Daddy's in Midland as a really good, very casual, and reasonable place for ribs and bbq out in the middle part of the state and I also enjoy both Firehouse bbq places (which ironically I don't believe are owned by the same people)both in Shelby Township and in Clinton Township (if they rebuilt it because they had a fire a few years back after I moved from Clinton Township to Port Huron). Went to Red Hot & Blue once in Sterling Heights and it was "ok" as well but nothing fancy. Many years ago I used to love going to the Apple Orchard Inn for ribs (they also specialized in many German dishes) up in the Washington Township/Romea area off Van Dyke (very northen suburbs). Otherwise, you may want to check out the following link for more "independent" rib places in the area and see how they've been rated.

It's thoughtful of you to give your brother-in-law such a wonderful gift.

Bone Yard Barbecue has the best ribs in Michigan, may even have the best BBQ Ribs in the united states.
Hands down they can't be beat for quality and taste. are truly the best.

Plus they have four Metro Detroit locations to serve you.

Slows in Detroit is excellent. Famous Daves has received national recognition for their ribs. They are located in Rochester Hills and I think near Roseville. Then there are your normal places like Outback, Texas Roadhouse, any steakhouse really. But I would say Famous Daves is the best one.
