I have a problem with waiting in lines. I'm too impatient to do so. The other day I went to a warehouse store, I won't mention it's name. I spent 40 minutes filling up the basket with goodies. Then I saw real long lines at all the check out lanes. I panicked, left the basket of goodies and went home empty-handed. Should the Americans With Disabilities Act require such stores to have a special lane for people with my type of disability (where we wouldn't be subjected to the indignity of waiting)?????

I suffer from that same malady. I'm afraid the speedy line would be very long. By the way how much do you think we would receive every month in compensation?

No. The ADA does not require stores to have special lines for people who can't stand in line. I don't think any of us like to stand in line. Disability or not. I know for some people with disabilities it is hard to stand in line, but maybe you know someone who wouldn't mind shopping for you. Perhaps shop at a time of day when the lines are not too long. Even if you had a physical disability, you would still have to wait in line. While it's true they special lanes for the physically handicapped, they still have to wait. How would the ADA inforce such a law? My son has General Anxiety Disorder and waiting in line is hard for him but there are no other choices other than trying to shop at non-peak times. Sorry.

Hey Prof,

First, it's not a disability unless you have a physical challenge that is defined by the ADA

Second, are you talking about special lanes?

They already have them.

They are called check-out lines. We all wait in them.

If you notice, they don't have special faster check-out lines for the disabled, just ones that are wider and lowered for their convenience.

So wait in line with the rest of us "disabled" folks!

p.s. Better yet, why not shop online? There, no more waiting in lines....

nice try. its like special parking.

there's no such thing as the right to shop with short checkout lines no matter how freaked out you get.

try bringing a book to read to help pass the time instead

Absolutely NOT. Yours is not a disability it is simply disgusting manners and a vastly over inflated sense of your personal worth. You are no better than the rest of us so shut up and wait your turn.
