Why shouldn't boys look?
Why only a choice between tampons and pads?

It's all down to personal choice, but tampons are defiantly not recommended because as well as expensive and environmentally harmful in the case of commercial or organic tampons, tampons are very bad for vaginal health – infections, TSS, vaginal splitting, fibre loss, irritation, increase in menstrual cramping, chemical exposure.

I personally use a menstrual cup – much more hygienic than tampons or pads (FYI pads are more hygienic than tampons not the other way around), very convenient, environmentally friendly, very cheap, body-positive and most importantly safe – I use a Mooncup, but there are other types and brands like Divacup, Keeper, Lunette, and Instead.

Sanitary Towels

I'm a tampon girl myself, mostly because wearing a pad in my opinion feels almost like a diaper and at night the blood leaks into my panties and it gets expensive to keep buying new underwear. But I use pads once my period starts getting down to the last couple of days because it isn't as heavy then and doesn't leak into my panties. Also like has been said, if you do choose tampons it's best not to use tampons all the time. I personnally get crampy when I use tampons for too long, and that is when I switch.

Sanitary Towels are the best for regular use. Tampons may be used on getting in to water (swimming) or such short period activities. Tampons may cause the stagnation of blood and discharge in the vaginal canal. It can cause ascending infections to the reproductive organs.

Tampons... There's no competition. Wearing a sanitary towel always feels like trying to walk normally with a sheep between my legs :o/

It's definitely a personal choice this one. I started in an era where tampons were rather uncomfortable and stuck to towels but I'm assured by my girls that things are a lot better now. Start small.

If you go for the towels, make sure you get the ones that have cotton, or cotton-feel surfaces. Some of the very thin ones feel plastic and sweaty to me.

I prefer tampons, but sometimes towels are good as well, depends what you are most comfortable with.
