Sort of.
The Central and West are often more over looked, even though they have some great teams ( chi-sox, tigers, angels, A's etc...)

The only reason the media gives so much attention to those two teams is because that's what the majority of fans want to hear. Do you think millions of people are going to tune in every night to listen to analysts discuss the Nationals and Devil Rays? Of course not. So don't blame the media, blame the fans who never grow tired of hearing about those franchises.
The Yankees are baseball's most popular team by far, located in the most populous city in America - of course they're going to get plenty of media attention. And the Sox are a consistently good team, again enormously popular all over the country, and a team with a very rich tradition.
Finally, I would say that other teams - especially those in the NL Central - have received plenty of attention this season. The Tigers have been written about as much as any team in MLB.

Hmm, yeah - no. The Yankees and Red Sox are the two most popular teams in all of baseball (and the highest payrolls don't hurt either). The Blue Jays are quickly rising, the Orioles have a passionate fan base (too bad their team sucks) and the Devil Rays are a team that you may see rising once they mature and find some pitching. The AL East is anything BUT overrated.

Probably yes. You have a very good point. The huge population and number of media people in the Northeast has a lot to do with the hype. I think the Yankees really are good this year, but of course we heard about them repeatedly every single year much more than anyone but the biggest Yankee fan would like.

I wouldn't say the teams are over-rated, I would also say that they are over covered. I agree that too much attention is being payed to the East but thats what happens to the division with by far the highest payroll. The AL Central is a great division. But the NL is bad, only two teams have winning interleague records: the Rockies and Giant both of whom faced only the AL West.
