My uncle gave my family an illistrated anatomy book, with hundreds of pages and drawings of human and animal anatomy. I use it as reference since im an art student, and have taken figure drawing classes and such. yesterday i cuaght my 14 year old sister with a black sharpie "censoring" the entire book! which included some art as examples. i was mad becuase she had defaced an expensive book, when i got angry she smirked and asked if i was planning on drawing a penis. she said the book was just as much hers as mine, and i was a sex fiend. i was too shocked to say anything. who is right in this matter?

You were in the right, she had no business taking a permanent marker to a book. That frustrates me because I work at a library. Though you can be proud of her for trying to "censor" the book, you should talk to her and explain that the reason you study the pictures in the book is so that the form of the person you are drawing will be in proportion. I also draw so I understand why you use the book as a reference.
Oh, and also tell her that yes you do plan on drawing the outline of a penis because some of your subjects will be male. Don't get me wrong I do mean fully clothed males! lol

If you want to study anatomy, then prepare for nudity. I saw nudity as a child and I'm not warped. If it's a medical book it's obviously different that porn. No little kid is going to be mentally messed up because they happen to see a penis (gasp) or a vagina (oh no!) in a medical context... Besides... having a weird obsession over them not seeing it is only going to weird up your younger siblings' perception of the body/sexuality. Who cares? There's nothing gross about the human body.

I think your sister is having a hard time being 14 years old. Of course it's not "right" to damage that book, but maybe you should cut her some slack because she's at a difficult stage of her life.

What did your parents say about this? This confrontation is just as much about the subject matter as it is with her behavior. She can't not go around defacing property at her whim. If she doesn't like the book , leave it in the shelf. If she dislikes the human body, then your parents need to get her some psychological assistance.

yes the art work of human anatomy is relative in art to draw the human penis first then draw the clothes over that then add color ,it gives the artist the abillity to make good jugdements in the size of the torseo, but if your sister is under 13 she should be able to see that and no those people are not sex fiends they acctully are amune to see sexuality in it beacse the human body is art its self gods art DONT HATE Gods ART

She wasn't ready to see the book, and certainly she didn't have any right to write on it because that is not the intended purpose of the book and she was putting on you what she wanted to do, she caught you off guard, I think that she was the sex fiend, whatever that means

she's 14. she didn't do it so much because she thinks your "gross" as to piss you off. At my house my dad would beat my mom, the brothers would beat me, we ran around like nuts, but you never, ever!! threw or damaged a book!

She is such a brat! You shouldn't deface books. I hope you tell your parents and get her grounded or something.

You are, whoop her little behind. She has no right o destroy somethign belonging to all of you, and she should have to pay to replace it by doing chores or a part time job.
