I have an English PC which came preset with a region 2 DVD drive. If I change my region on my PC DVD drive to region 1 then will I be able to play region 1 DVDs? Will PAL or NTSC have anything to do with it? Would I have to download a new Codec, if so where from?

the Computer DVD player will read all region's so if you are having problems playing a movie from a different region you need to change the setting of the software you are using.
also if you like you can use DVD SHRINK its a program that lets you "backup" DVD's and you can change them to region free when you do a "backup" them(will play on any region)

DVD regions are generally software controlled. The programs I've used allow you to change the DVD region several times, but only several times. It's a DVD drive, it should play NTSC or PAL.

the computer will be happy to play either pal or NTSC or possibly even secam (if your into french stuff) and no you do not have to download a codec.

Actually if you are intending to do this a lot I would recommend using the slysoft program Anydvd - It not only allows region change but also removes copy protection so you can backup your dvd's to your hard drive in case they get scratched. You do have to get othr software like CloneDVD to back the disks up.

To the specific question: " If I change my region on my PC DVD drive to region 1 then will I be able to play region 1 DVDs?" -- Yes, but then you won't be able to watch region 2 without changing back.
I have done this twice now, but it will only let me change two times more.

There are programs you can download which turn your dvd drive into the region of the disc inside, i use AnyDVD by slysoft, it has some other very good uses too. Don't change the region on the drive options, you only get a couple of changes and then it will permenantly change.

certain DVD drives can be 'cracked' so that without any other software your drive will be region unlocked forever. However i'm not too sure about the legality of this. If you find out that it is in fact legal, a simple search engine search for " region free" might help.
