It's unlikely that it's cancerous as it's painful. It's probably just a cyst! Whatever it is you've found it early and are getting it checked so try not to worry too much - I know, easy for me to say but just think positively!
Good luck xxxxx

I know that its hard not to think of breast cancer when you find a lump in your breast. It could be other things too. Actually, painful lumps are rarely signs of breast cancer. It could be a cyst, or an infection or a benign(non-cancerous) lump. Your doctor will probably order a mammogram or an ultrasound or both. If those tests are inconclusive you might even have to have a biopsy. But having a biopsy doesn't mean cancer either, it's just another way to figure out what is going on. Try not to worry to much and I'm glad you are getting it checked out.

I found a lump in my breast in 2003 which had no pain whatsoever. It turned out to be pretty disasterous. There a four different kinds of breast cancer. As far as I know none of them are painful. 9 out of 10 lumps checked by the breast care unit are not cancerous. Obviously any lump has to be checked. All the best for your appointment tomorrow. Until then, the most important thing I can say to you (in this situation or any other):
THERE'S NO POINT IN WORRYING ABOUT THINGS YOU CANNOT CONTROL !
Take care.

Was in similar situation myself not so long back. Try not to worry - you are doing the right thing in consulting your GP who will if necessary, refer you to the Hospital. Will be thinking of you and you will be in my prayers that all will be well.
Many times lumps are found and they are non-cancerous, cysts, etc. Breast lumps are very common and most women will experience one or more at some time but the sooner you are checked out the better. Good Luck - hope all will be well.

I had a painful lump in my breast last week.... went to the dr, and had a mammo done the next day. I was told that MOST painful lumps that just appear are not cancerous. They are usually a cyst, an infection, or could be caused by a nodule in a milk duct. You are smart to have it checked right away. Don't make yourself sick with worry 'til your appointment. 9 out of 10 times it will prove to be non-cancerous. Mine was an infected milk duct..... and you will be alright too.

The chance of it being cancer depends on a lot of factors
* Your age.
* Family history of the same or any other organ cancer.
* How long you got this lump?
* Is it increasing the size?
* Are you on your post ovulation period (just before menstrual cycle)?
Advice:
Go to the GP as planned. Get a biopsy for the confirmation. It can be a fine needle aspiration or a incision biopsy. Wishing you the best for a safe result.

Unfortunately, it is possible. Most are not cancerous though. I know for fact my mother gets one about every year and has got them for the past 20 or 30 years and not one has ever been cancerous. But then again, I got one at 21 and being a male I thought nothing off it. Turned out it was cancerous, but they were able to remove it before any of it spread. So definitely go get checked out as soon as possible.

Most likely it is just a cyst and nothing to really worry about. Talk with your GP and he/she will point you in the right direction.
How do I know? My wife has had several, she is good about noticing anything different since her mother is a breast cancer survivor, but so far they have only been cysts. The doctors did have her come in and have one removed and tested just to make sure, and it was benign.

Best way to know is to get it checked out. Does breast cancer run in your family? It is best to have a knowledgeable person check you out. One of the warning signs of cancer is a lump or thickness in the breast or elsewhere that does not heal. Early detection is essential for a quick cure, you did that so don't fret yourself into another problem.

Don't worry too much. Good thing you're getting it checked out, but it could just be a benign cyst. Also, there's a severe staph strain going around called MRSA, which can cause painful abscesses in the armpit area. You're wise to see your doctor immediately, but chances are it might not be cancer at all. Good luck!
