My daughter is 8, she's into reading, barbies, dinosaurs, cartoons, drawing etc. We've been to disney and were looking for a destination for spring break next year that possibly wouldn't be as pricey. We love Gatlinburg, TN. also but we go there quite often. Any ideas?

Washington DC around the National Mall has tons of free museums, memorials, etc. Hotels downtown are expensive, but we stayed in Virginia and took the commuter train in...very clean and easy. You can research it all on-line.

We went to Myrtle Beach for 10 days, and it was TERRIFIC!!!!! Lots of things for the kids to do, and price was reasonable. We had a 3 bedroom condo on the ocean with full kitchen, washer and drier, 2 bathrooms, so we took my parents. My husband and I actually got to enjoy the sites "sans" children for an evening!!

Although it sounds boring for an eight year old, they will appreciate it later on in their life... The Grand Canyon. Such a beautiful place.
