You can drink cranberry juice until you can get to the doctor but if it is indeed an infection, it will not go away until you see a doctor and get on some antibiotics.

Some women have even shorter urethras AND ureters than they should and that leaves them prone to more infections. Are you "petite" with a short waist? You're probably for sure getting the infection.
What you can do is drink cranberry juice and a lot of water. Avoid sugary foods and drinks always, eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies. Just keep healthy and if it hurts really bad or there is a discharge and you have a fever, go ahead to see the doctor. Definitely go if you start turning green.

A bladder infection, or urinary tract infection (UTI) is a bacterial infection that affects part of the urinary tract. When bacteria get into the bladder and multiplies in the urine, it causes a bladder infection. It is reported that nearly 85% of UTIs are caused by the bacteria Escherichia coli, or E. coli. Bladder infections are characterized by an urgent desire to empty the bladder. Symptoms include: frequent urination, burning or pain during urination, bladder spasms, having to urinate even though little or no urine actually comes out.
While cranberry is most commonly recommended for prevention, many herbs can also kill bacteria and are diuretic.
These include:
Acidophilus: Intestinal pH plays a big role in maintaining good health. A slightly acidic pH of about 6.7 to 6.9 should be maintained. An alkaline pH (about 7.0) indicates poor bacterial flora, and a very acid stool (which can occur with excessive amounts of sugar) creates conditions that can cause diarrhea. The acids produced by the probiotics (acidophilus) help maintain the correct pH and inhibit the growth of potentially harmful bacteria. In addition, they have the amazing capacity to secrete numerous metabolites, or endotoxins, that kill pathogenic bacteria.
Uva-ursi: contains the ingredient arbutin, which fights germs in the urinary tract. In addition, "the herb contains several diuretics that help flush the urinary tract, leading to faster healing. It also has several tannins, which act as powerful astringents drying out swollen, infected tissue. A third property of uva-ursi is allantoin, which promotes the growth of new cells." "For this herb to be effective you must not eat or drink anything of acidic nature, such as citrus fruits or juices. Don't take vitamin C supplements while using it!!
Garlic: Garlic is used to help kill bacteria. Before the advent of antibiotics, garlic was used to fight off infections. Research
Goldenseal has been used for the treatment of infections is well documented. It works better in alkaline urine. Helps to maintain Healthy urinary tract.

yes, cranberry juice, lots of water: all good. There's an OTC med that will relieve your symptoms, but will mask whether or not the infection is really gone. Sometimes I wait a day to see if fluids will flush it out, but then I go to the doc to get antibiotics.

My mother gets those a lot. If you take cranberry juice you must take the kind at health food stores that doesn't contain a lot of sugar. D-Mannose (you can get at a health food store) is good if your pee does start to hurt. And fresh garlic is good for any infection.

Try to drink it away - this means at least a pint of water an hour for as long as you can stand to do it - try for 6 hours.
There's also an OTC medicine you can try.
If you've still got it after 3 days of drinking and taking the OTC and you can't feel it getting better - you need antibiotics.

Go to your doctor to make sure what you have and then the doctor can prescribe the correct antibiotic. Different antibiotics work on different infections.
