go to programs then Acessories then system tools then disk defragmenter. Depending on your hard drive size it takes some time to complete. Before you do that go to My computer then right click on C drive then select properties then select tools and select error checking. I would do disk cleanup before doing either of these.

If you are using Windows (XP), go to Start -> My Computer -> right click the icon next to something that should say C: at the end, (or something like that) -> Click Properties -> Click the Tools tab at the top, and click the Defragment (Now) button, Select the drive you want to defragment, and click defragment towards the bottom of the window. But, you much have Administrator priviliges to defragment your hard drive.

go to my computer
right click on local disk
click properties
go to tools on the top where the tabs are
then click defragment Now
then it ll show u this picture of ur files space which look like blue red green lines
and then click defreagment
and itll take a while so do it at night..or when noone will use the computer
=)do this at least once a month..well thats what i do.
