The actual amount of sleep we need changes from person to person and from season to season. Some people do very well with five to six hours of sleep a night, while others need a good ten hours. We generally sleep longer when the nights are longer, in cold weather and in cold climates, and in northern regions. The opposite is true as well: we generally sleep less when the days are longer, in warm weather and warm climates, and in southern regions. And, of course, activity also influences the amount of sleep each of us requires.

For most adults six to eight hours should be plenty. We tend to need less sleep as we get older. Too much can be as bad for you as too little. These sites are quite interesting. I hope this helps.

It all depends on your life style, activity, mental state, diet, any drugs etc as anyone of these either individually or collectively will present their own influences.
However, some people are adequately rested and rejuvenated after 6 hours though more people require around 8 or 9 hours every 24 hours.
Our bodies are actually designed to have a rest during the middle of the day - look at the Spanish having their siesta. When I am able to rest for 40 minutes in the middle of the day I feel fab afterwards. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

Average = 8 continuous hours per 24hour period. Some as little as 4 others as much as 10 but evidence suggests 8 is ideal for being refreshed and renewed in the morning.

Depends on the individual.
My friend gets by with only 3! He's wide awake and ready to go. I need at least 8, any less and I get a banging headache.
Talking of sleep........

doctors recommend at least 7-8 hours a day, but I think it actually depends on the person because I know 7-8 hours a night is not enough for me my personal opnion is at least 9-10 but like I said everybody is different

Currently they are experimenting with human guinea pigs who are being allowed to sleep for half an hour every three hours ~ day and night. It is obviously very inconvenient, but they seem to be coping quite well.
