Jem is an American animated television series that ran from 1985 to 1988 in U.S. first-run syndication. The show is about a singer, Jem, her band the Holograms, and their adventures.

Catch phrases from the show included "Showtime, Synergy!" and "Truly outrageous!" (the latter usually associated with supporting character Kimber).

Despite the fact that the show was originally designed by Hasbro for the purpose of marketing a line of dolls, it was acclaimed for its interweaving storylines and complex backstory, which were almost unheard of in an animated television series at the time.

The show also features two-minute music videos, tying it in with the concept of MTV and its burgeoning popularity. The animated series still retains a very loyal fan-following and to this day is still widely regarded as one of the 80s finest cartoons.

Jem was first released on DVD in the US in 2004 remastered and in 5.1 Audio. Since then Australia and France have also released JEM on DVD/Boxsets. The US boxsets are now out of print.

Yep I watched Jem, and got the episodes on DVD for my best friend when they came out in 2004. There was some kind of licensing issue and now they dont make them anymore. You can buy them on Ebay but they are priced quite high. They were only like $30 for each set when they came out in the stores (just to give you an idea of the price mark up if you decide to buy them).

Yeah, I remember Jem. I loved that cartoon. I remember when they used to rock the stage! No one will ever make a cartoon like that again. I want the DVD collection (if they have one).

I vaugely recall something called Jem and the Rockers. Is this the same deal? Something about a band... laser light shows... I don't know I was somewhere around 4 at the time.

Yeah I loved watching that when I was little! Btw, seasons 1, 2, and the 1st 1/2 of 3 were officially released before they decided not to release the rest. So part of it is out on dvd (but hard to find and can be kind of expensive). And there are a lot of bootlegs out there, but there are real sets out there.

I do! It was pretty good. Synergy was a supercomputer that changed a woman into rock star, Jem. She (and bandmates) would investigate and solve crimes just in time to play a concert.
