What can we do to make people respect us? I work so hard just to get an ounce of respect. I know many others do all. Tell me, please, what you do that gets you respect from the majority culture.

"They" don't like you are your kind no matter what you do? If your rich you get racial profile, if your poor then that justify them to stereotype you. Haven't you learn anything form the last 3/400 years.

Well let me say this. i have black friends but i need to put this on the table. in my town , about 75 to 80 percent of all crime are commited by black males. most of them think white people owe them something so their just going to take it. Now i do know some black males that work very hard and they deserve respect . anyone black or white who cant earn a respectable living and be a desent person in their community, then they dont deserve respect. Im sorry to say but its the bad seeds in the black community that keep the good black people from getting the respect they deserve.

Ok I am white, but I am interested in your question, because I give everyone the same respect that they deserve. I have no color issues, hell my bf is a real African but I have issues with blacks that think all white people are not respectful. If you feel slighted at work, talk to them and deal with it, but it's 2006 and prejudice is everywhere! I take my lily white a** down to Louisiana and in some parts they are so rude because of my skin color. I am sorry for you if you feel you have to bust you a** to get respect, if you do, then those people don't deserve your respect!

Respect is earned, not just given. And it is just like any other culture, when you talk, walk, act , and look stupid you will never get respect. So dress nice, speak correctly, don't try to be a "gangsta", get and keep a job, and people will respect you. And for the ones who don't, they aren't worth your time anyway.

Well, I don't have any black friends that are girls, but lots that are guys. I think some people are afraid to approach black people because they get offended very easily. It seems like if I try to talk to any black girl, she gets ultra defensive and doesn't seem to like me because I am white. But she will have other white friends, but I am not the type of white girl to dress black.

I guess my point is, alot of black people complain so much about not being respected for their race and THEY are the ones that make their race an issue, by trying to say that anytime someone says something or does something, it's because of their race.

I feel like I havent explained myself very well, but I hope you get my point.

You must be assimilated . Look at the other immigrants of the past 200 years that have succeeded so well by merging into the rest of the American culture . And don't use Ebonics it's a red flag .

I am white and grew-up in a town of about 6000 people. For a while, there was only one black family in town who had a son named "Jimmy" who was a good friend of mine...later a 2nd black fam moved in and a child of that family became my best gf...I later dated her brother. Thing is, I don't think I really noticed, then, that there was any difference in their skin color. It wasn't until I moved to the big city and say most of my black brothers and sisters were living in poverty. I know this sounds over simplistic, but try to forget our differences, treat everyone the way you would like to be treated. Love ya.

For a start don't write such degrading questions on Yahoo and respect yourself and you will be respected. Who needs white reassurance anyway??
