Definetly not...(unless you've got a like cute Southern accent maybe) but, sometimes if you are in like Europe and stuff it's just better to tell people you are Canadian....as soon as people hear an American accent they automatically start acting rude and defensive because that is how they expect Americans to act....sew a Canadian flag to your backpack if you are travelling it will keep you safer and you will get better service from people. It's nothing personal in anyway against Americans...it's just that you can't really get away with trying to pretend you are british (you can probably pretend in most cases you are from Canada (we don't actually say
"eh" all the time btw....) lol

Unfortunately, being American...pretty much makes you unpopular anywhere you go in a touristy type situation except for America.....=( unfortunate for the millions of great Americans affected by a few loud obnoxious ones.

*****************In Response to Murray W --- " Fleece the Yankee "The question wasn't does it make you a popular marketplace victim hehehe - though you are right to a point...but the American dollar isn't as wanted as it once was...so, I'm not so sure how much this theory holds up anymore...not to mention most people in market (tourist shop) type situations know ANY tourist not just Americans come with money. HEHEHE!

British accents are better, unless you want to be in an American Film. Where you'll be cast as the baddy or an upper class tw*t like that Hugh Grant bloke. Scouse accents are great cos Americans either can't understand us (which is good) or think we're scottish which is also quite cool :)

The answer here is yes. It is not because people from other countries like the accent, it is the dollars associated with the accent.
