In Ohio there's a already a World Religions Unit in the High School World History class that Freshmen/Sophomores usually take.

I don't think it should be required, but it would be a great elective. I am agnostic, but i am very interested in different religions. Requiring it would cause a big uproar over the rights of students, so it prolly wouldn't happen, but as you said, Greek Mythology is a religious thing and i learned that in 6th grade. As long as they weren't required to say prayers/do rituals, or anything of that nature learning about it wouldn't really be offensive, but it would still more than likely cause a problem. In my experiences world history classes touch on many religions but don't go too deep into them. So I don't think religion is necessary as a requirement, but as an elective it would be great.
But It should also be teaching all the facts about the religions, not trying to convert students or anything. I do believe it's ok for students to pray in school, if there not hurting anyone then who cares? The people who don't want there kids to be around other religions are close minded and unrealistic. People do believe other things and there kids aren't obligated to believe something just case there parents do. But having said that, the school should be for informational/educational purposes only.

First of all:
1. Do they cover many different religions and not just Christianity?
2. Is this an elective class?
3. Does not require students to actually perform the rituals of that certain religion/abide by the rules of that religion?
4. Is taught by a liscensed historical social studies teacher?
I don't think a teacher such as a sunday school teacher or a priest should teach this in a public school.
Also, how does this effect prayer (as said in your title)? Prayer in school is a big NO-NO because it advances one religion above others.

I think teaching world religions would be beneficial as long as all of them were included and the teaching was not biased. It would have to be an elective though. Maybe more for colleges...I doubt public schools could ever offer a course like this.

I think public schools should definately add a world's religions class. It's important that it be about learning facts and about different beliefs and their histories and not be about preaching certain beliefs. I believe in separation of church and state, and I'm all for this kind of class--I don't think that's a contradiction. Public schools should also teach comprehensive sex education, but that's another issue.

It's not prayer if you're teaching students about the history and structure of a religion, or many different religions.
The class is not saying those religions are correct (or not). The class is just providing information comparable to a history or sociology seminar.

One's religion should be taught at home or in a place of worship not public schools.

i guess it would be a good idea as long as all religions are taught equally and the person teaching dosnt favor one over the other. for example, a jewish guy teachin about islam. that wouldnt be a good idea. as long as people keep personal opinions to themselves, and the person wants to teach the truth and not make people feel a certain way towards any specific religon, why not.

The unicorn is an important figure in my life
it symbolozies trust and love
During Katrina, I was left to wallow in my own sea of feces as all my possessions (george foreman grill, dustbuster, and illegal porn) floated all around me in dissarray.
Did I pray to the gods above known as god and jesus christ?
No! for shame!
I belted out a chorus for that bastard unicorn
Then a black dude took my stuff at gun point and asked me to directions to houston, tx.
