there are lots of varibles that could be causing this problem its simply that one of these problems

hardware

processer (it might be slow pentium 3 is usually the border of good celeron is the edge of workable

ram memory (you might not have enugh if you run low on vertual memory often durring normal operation (3-4 hrs) the thats the problem)

video card (video cards have a seprate ram and it might be too small to acommadate 3d grapics also it has its own processer i sugesst Nvidia its usually good enugh

CD or DVD (it might be a bad disk try alice [http://www.alice.org/]
if you can keep alice going after bulding a big world with alot of moving parts then thats the problem

software

your operading system (contradictory to the commercal pcs run games better tham macs and if your running anything less than windows xp sp2 and linux wont work its free and "you get what you pay for")

drivers (your pc manufacturer will heelp you with this but if its a dell go to support.dell.com and have your service codes were you can see them

system mantence (try defragmenting and virus scanning your system)

other

i heard that 60% of all system falures happen becouse of dust build up inside the cpu get a can of air and blow out the dust (DO NOT DO ON LAPTOPS well not that you can get it open ))

Geforce4 mmx440 is a $20.00 card. You'll get much better graphics upgrading to a newer model AGP card. There are plently available in the $100.00 range.

download the lastest direct x for your computer

also download the latest drivers for you graphix card

Also test your directx

click start then run the type dxdiag - that should scan your system - now click on display and test direct draw and direct 3d - hows this?

also turn down the hardware acceleration to see if this solves the problem - right click on the desktop and then settings then advanced then trouble shoot - have a go a sliding the bar down - bit by bit see if this helps out

also if fails - right click my computer > then properties > then hardware > then dev manager > click + next to display that should show your graphix card - right click and then uninstall

now goto the ide ata/atapi controllers - click on the plus + then right click on the controller > then uninstall > restart your pc > it should then find new hardware and ask you to restart again - then try a game

if all this fails and you have clean your fans then unfortunately you graphix card may be faulting

hope this helps

it really is a good concept to improve your pics card when you'll be gaming on your computing gadget (in accordance on your funds i am going to recommend a good pics card, yet assume to pay a minimum of $one hundred twenty for a good one) As for the different those which could play a similar video games with a similar specs i'm particular you tried lowering the pics settings yet when that did not artwork, than it may be a defective card or old and/or corrupted drivers. about the bios, i don't believe of it is your situation. I do an excellent type of gaming on my computing gadget and that i have not had a gaming situation concerning my bios, i have had booting topics and hardware detection topics yet when your computing gadget boots and detects each little thing than it can be purely the cardboard. i'd be incorrect yet in case you'll interest on your computing gadget than its a good concept to improve your pics card first in any case and observe if that fixes your situation. good success i wish this helps.

It could be either.

1. Delete the hardware from your device manager and re-install it using the latest drivers from Nvidia's website.

If no joy it could be the graphics card has died, so to speak.

because geforce4 mx440 doesn't have PIXEL SHADER 2.0 and the all new 3D games need pixel shader 2. you must upgrade your graphic card to geforce fx series
