Should any of these two U.S. islands (Hawaii and/or Puerto Rico) have a National Basketball Association basketball team?
...or should any other U.S. city, state, or territory, have a NBA team (that currently doesn't have one)?

Puerto Rico should...they LOVE basketball in that country. Hawaii couldn't care less about basketball, you would have a hard time selling out arenas there...

I'd say Puerto Rico b/c of it's proximity to the mainland. The players would be able to handle and recover from the travel easier. Also, the Puerto Rican national team has some decent players on it (Carlos Arroyo - Orlando Magic PG), so it can be assumed that basketball is relevant in Puerto Rico. They may not have a major fan base, but they could come in as a small market team.

Hawaii should not because (even though I live there) because you would be flying too much for a team to uphold. Hawaii also doesn't have a stadium big enough for any sport and the government doesn't have enough money to support a team or new stadium. No idea on Puerto Rico, but one place should be Las Vegas. Vegas should have a team because that would be another thing to throw it over the top. The government has enough money to build a big league stadium and the people have been wanting one for a long time. Vegas would be a good spot.

I don't think Puerto Rico should because, technically, they are not a state. It would be really cool in Hawaii had a team, but it would cost a lot due to all the flying.

The NBA is all about money. Its a corporation. I would love to see an Hawaiian team or something, but its unlikely due to low ticket sale probability. There are 2 LA teams for a reason, 5 California teams total for a reason. I am all about expansion of a league, but I dont think the NBA will go into a 31 team league (but maybe). My guess is a team would have to get sold and relocated. I think it would be really cool to have an Hawaiian or Puerto Rican team, but highly unlikely.

No. the former Montreal crew play 1/2 of this is video games in Puerto Rico. there is too a lot holiday in contact to get to and from there. it really is even extra the case with Hawaii. we've sufficient significant league communities. The skills is continuously really skinny, even now, for all the communities contained in the majors.

I will have to go with the people that say there is not enough of a fan base, to make it profitable. All pro sports teams have to make a profit. I also will have to go with the person who said that the price of tickets are so high in some places, a family of 4 can't afford to go see a game. If it is a good team the tickets are out of sight. I remember when the Celtics were at the top I could not afford to go to a game. Now they are at the bottom I can. I may have an outdated sense of honor, but if I gloried in their past achievements, I feel I also have to stick by them in there bad times. Check on the price of baseball tickets they are out of sight. I feel bad for families who want to make a day of it and can't.

i think we already pay high enough prices to see a game. it is almost to the point of being a corporate only sport, and family can hardly afford to take their children as it is. i suppose that it will happen soon enough and the prices will be so high that a regular family man won't go to the games due to the prices, but this is a guarantee, if they have to add in the expenses of new teams, outside the Continental USA, no one but the corporates will be able to afford the tickets (which we all know get written off at the end of the fiscal year as business meetings). so my answer is no i don't think they should add teams outside the Continental USA. as for inside the states i don't see any harm other than making it easier and more affordable to the family man to see his favorite team/s play more, of course then these athletes might have to earn some of the income we fans scrimp and save, to see their games.

just because a team would be in puerto rico or hawaii doesn't mean the locals would play for the team. the toronto raptors aren't an all canadian team. they shouldn't have teams because it would be hard to financially support them
