most dvd players support a lot of cd formats.
you can read through the manual and see what formats your dvd player supports
or
you can take the easy road and just pop the cd in and push play.
if it works then it supports it, if it spits back out then it does not support it

Yes you can but the sound might not be as good if just using TV speakers. The only
thing is when you have to leave the TV on you get invisible messages through the
screen.
