No, it's not illegal. As to whether it's wrong, I believe that it is very disrespectful and that it is a totally inappropriate form of protest. I also believe that one of our greatest strengths as a nation is that a person can still do it if he or she wishes. It really is a testament to all that is good about America, as it shows that we are truly free.

I find it ironic that now people think it is disrespectful to burn a flag. When I was much younger and learning about the flag and such it was considered a sign of respect to burn a flag if it ever touched the ground or got solid. Of course it was not a public burning but it was burned none the less. That said however I do think that burning a flag for the sole purpose of making a political statement or as a form of protest is disrespectful...but I served 4 years in the armed forces to protect our civil rights and the American way of life. So just because I don't like it, does not mean that those you want to do not have the right to do so.

The flag is a symbol and any actions taken with such a symbol are therefore symbolic. In other words whether you burn the flag or hoist it up the nearest flag pole, either way you are making a statement about the US. If you don't like the US or some of its policies, then burning the flag is one way to demonstrate your position. There is nothing inherently wrong with burning the flag. If enough people start burning the American flag then maybe Americans should take notice and consider improving their global image.

It's a test of whether you truly believe in the 1st amendment or not most conservatives fail this test badly. So do you believe in the 1st amendment or not ? After all it's just a flag not your rights that are burning. A flag is a thing that is doomed to rot away eventually, Rights on the other hand should be immortal and never ever dumb down just because it makes you uncomfortable. Currently it's not illegal to burn the flag. There are attempts to pass an amendment that would make flag burning illegal So far unsuccessfully.

It's legal. However, there are common sense restrictions.
1. It has to be your flag. If not, then that's destruction of private property and subject to civil and criminal penalties.
2. It must be done with regard to fire laws. For example, you can't just light it up in the middle of the street. Doing so with a plain piece of cloth would be a violation of the law in most jurisdictions. The same would hold for flags.
3. You should expect that if you do burn it, you might be ostracized by most of the people who knew you did it. For example, if a movie actor did it, then he/she could expect that fewer people would go the their movies.

It is not illegal, it is a protected form of free speech as ruled by the Supreme Court. I hate it when it is done but it helps the rest of us spot the ****oles.
I am in Oklahoma, I would not recommend that you burn the flag here or in Texas, the cops will not get you but you will not live very long.

It's not illegal.
And there hasn't been a rash of flag burning in this country lately.
I think the Congress is wasting a monumental amount of time on this election year misdirection.

I think it is morally wrong, but I can remember when people use to think putting the American Flag on the back of your jacket was a disgrace....and when hanging the Flag, we could not let it touch the ground.

It is immoral to use the symbol of this Great Country for purposes of protest. However people have died to keep America free. This is one freedom, that test the system. In America as with all free countrys should retain the right to free expression. It is my opinion that burning the flag should be legal in order to help protect our freedom. This does not mean that I endorse the practice of burning a flag in protest.

IT'S WRONG but it's not illegal. It shouldn't be illegal either, no matter how distasteful it is. If nothing else we get a chance to see what kind of people would do such a thing and it gives us an opportunity to learn exactly who they are. When the Right Wing revolution is complete (roundabout 2020) we can hunt down and kill the basta*ds!

Depends, if you are disposing of a retired flag, burning it is the right way to do it. To burn it as a protest is not against the law. It was probably made in Hondorus or China anyway, Your supposed to respect what it stands for, thats what matters.
