The only way to turn off the monitor on an iMac is to go into your System Prefrences and choose Energy Saver by clicking on the light bulb. make sure that the "Put the display to sleep..." box is checked and drag the slider below it all the way to the left to one minute.
Then all you have to do is wait one minute and the monitor will go off.

i'm uncertain what you advise through "messed round with the teach saver", yet attempt messing with the video reveal skill putting contained in the teach saver properties. click skill (interior teach saver properties tab) and ascertain the "turn Off video reveal" aspect. See if it says "in no way"... if so, replace it to a minimum of a few element else, 10 minutes, a million minute, even with. Play with that and observe what takes position.

There should be a button at the back of the screen at the lefthand side, with a c and slash in a circle.

It's a Mac. Just think "Turn off, ... Turn off" and poof it should turn off. Apple added the mind reading feature some years ago.
