At Issus realizing that his forces were outnumbered he ordered his finest troops to charge straight at the enemy's king. Battle of Issus were the Greeks defeated the Persian army.
Alexander was from the ancient Greek kingdom of (Greek)Macedonia (not from modern Slavic-Macedonia)
Alexander and his father Philip managed to unite (with force of course) the Greek states in a common war against the Persian empire.
As a result, Alexander spread the Greek culture and language from Greece all the way to India creating a gigantic Greek empire. {After his death his empire broke in smaller Greek (Hellenistic) kingdoms}
