Home. Especially after a long night in the pub and that long trek back. Coming from Glasgow I've got to agree with you about Scotland.

I was born and bred in Ireland and like u, Ive have travelled quite extensively over the past 2 years and to date I would say the most beautiful place I have visited is New Zealand.
The scenery is breath taking, a mixture of Canada, Scotland & Ireland, all rolled into one! Ive always said I could live nowhere other than Ireland but there is a place in South Island , New Zealand called Queenstown which could change my mind. Its surrounded by mountains & lakes, warm in summer & snow in winter and the people are very easy going. . . . . . sorry but I get a bit carried away when Im reminded of it !
Please, if u have not already been there, make a point of visiting the home of 'bungee jumping'

I've been to lots of beautiful places and live in one now (Peak District National Park in Derbyshire). I remember literally crying at the beauty of Colorado when I was about fourteen. I think it's something about mountains that does it for me.
The most beautiful place I've been to this past year is in Nepal. Take the road from Chitwan to Katmandu in the foothills of the Himalayas. It's a classic mountain road, a rollercoaster winding and snaking through the rocks. Then you suddenly round a bend and see nothing before you but sky and below you the river valley with green terraces and the occasional village. Then back you go again into the rocks.
Along this road is a cable car station. It seems to be a tourist spot full of Indian and Nepalese families on holiday. The cable car goes to the top of the mountain to a place called Manakamana.
I went along for the ride thinking we'd get to a great look-out place and I'd see a few mountain tops. It was fantastic being pulled into the clouds and watching the world below disappear into the mist and then disappearing into it ourselves - suspended for a few moments in nothing.
Suddenly the mist cleared and the most glorious sun bounced off from the tops of the clouds and there in front of us was Manakamana - not just a mountain (just a mountain!), and not just a viewing place and cable car station...but an entire village with people and shops and houses.
There were gardens below us for the last few hundred feet of the ride and they were full of flowers and fruit trees. It was as if we'd come to some forgotten Shangri-La. When we got out of the car and walked up to the village, I realised that this wasn't just a cable car for tourists, it was the local transport. Local people were returning to their homes and shops. The streets were full of stalls selling marigold necklaces and other offerings, including chickens. At the top was a temple with musicians playing Nepalese music and people waiting to make their offerings to the Goddess of Manakamana.
And, of course, all around us beyond the little houses and stalls and the smiling, gentle Nepalese and the ancient temple, were mountains and clouds, as far as I could see.
Bliss!

Hi Donna. I hope you get this message. Two years ago I was an exchange student in your wonderful country, Scotland. I met the most amazing man I had ever known. He taught me to love your culture just as I came to love him. When he finally asked me to marry him, I felt as though my life would finally be complete. One week before the wedding he was killed in an automobile accident in the Highlands. The spot where he died looks out over a misty valley that is so common to your countryside. I still go there and just stand in the mist, remembering and crying. Yes, I believe Scotland is the most beautiful place in all the world. It is where my true love was from. It is where he died. And it is where I will wait for him until the end of time.

Split, Croatia.
The city is rather small at coastline, the whole building and walksides are made out of some kind of limestone. It's very old and no longer being use. So it's like traveling back in time. Croatian are known for their cleaniness, I alway notice scent similar to baby powder whenever I enter someone house or a hotel. There's no track of dust or anything anywhere.
The beach is very nice, known to have cleanest water out of all beach, very blue, smell very nice, no known dangerous thing such as jellyfish, sting ray, or anything expect for urinch, and the water is perfect temperature.
There's a street market all over the place that sell every kind of things you could imagine of from foods, clothes, hygiene items, to toys. Also there's still a regular store in that anicent building that sell all kind of things you could ask for from name brand clothes to gadgets need.
The people are incredible nice and friendly. They treat tourist very well and are very helpful.
The weather is very nice too. I was there during summer and it does get pretty hot, but there's alway beach to swim in or shaded place at street markets. At night when we went to bed, we left window open wide so cool air and scent of beach can circulate all through the room which feel so nice :-)

I love the North of Scotland, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, however I look to my imagination for beauty, Geographically.. I believe the peaks and foothills of Nepal is as peaceful, and the cold should be a warm reminder of home.

Ireland, went down one street about 200 yards long and I counted 11 pubs, but I reckon deep in the Amazon Rainforest would be quite delightful, untouched by modern man, I visited a similiar place in my dreams.
