Try pressing F8 since the computer starts, it should open a menu for you that helps you decide which mode you want to start your computer with. It sometimes gets this mode as default.

Check something... Go to Start>Run and type msconfig and hit enter. Click on the Boot.ini tab and make sure none of the options are checked.

Then click on the startup tab and and uncheck everything except those items associated with your antivirus programs or firewalls. Restart your computer... If you boot up normally you can go back to msconfig and add back startup items if necessary...
