Reading and studying do not in any way increase intelligence. they increase knowledge. Of course, reading novels is completely different from reading text books.
Intelligence is something we either have or don't have, but a person with a great store of knowledge would be better off in some cases than an intelligent but lazy person.

Inteligence adds when learning processes are going on. Neural paths are stablished and thus this person's intelligence gets enhanced.
Whenever a person goes into learning activities, new experiences, and visual data input, neurons stablish connections with each other around, giving this particular person more intelligence.
