War is a form of diplomacy. When two entities cannot agree on something or one entity sees an opportunity to better itself at the expense of another, war results. War has also been a population control and a major source of cultural diffusion in the past. For example, the crusades put western Europeans in contact with their then-superior Muslim adversaries. Consequently, the exotic items that the crusaders brought back home sparked trade interests in the Europeans, who craved Asian products such as silk and spices.

War has also been fought for religious reasons. Obviuosly the "good" in that is in the eye of the beholder, or the people who subscribe to that line of belief. In every case, war can be justified by some and seen as despicable by others. So lets not be too quick to judge whether or not it is "good for nothing" or not.

Think of the last time you got into a physical fight, or physically moved someone who was in your way. You did that because passive diplomacy failed or you were looking for a more convenient way to achieve your goals. That is war on a smaller scale.

It's good for confronting evils like Islamic Jihadism. It's good for exposing the pathetic, hippie fantasies of liberals and peacniks. It's a great way for a nation to kill off its' enemies. It's a grand way to wipe the slate clean on a a patch of troublesome real estate like the middle east and remake it in our image. It's also a convenient way for fools to make themselves feel better and spiritually superior by protesting it.

Sometimes there is no choice. WW2 was not a choice. Japan bombed Pearl Harbor and Germany was their ally. We should have gone after Bin Laden not Saddam who had nothing to do with 9-11. We have to get rid of Al Queda or they will surely attack us again.

It's good for war profiteers and private contractors with connections to decision makers in the administration: Blackwater and Lincoln Group, friends and campaign contributors to Bush and Haliburton and subsidiaries connected to Cheney and Rumsfeld. And, their heirs of course.

It should show the voters how stupid they are for electing a complete political failure. However in some countries the voters are too stupid to even realize that a 9 trillion dollar national debt and thousands of dead soldiers, are indications that they may not have voted for the right person.
