I have very small eyelids (when my eyes are open, there is only a tiny bit of lid showing) and a very small distance from my lids to my brows! Is there any hope for me wearing eyeshadow? If so, how best to apply it, so as not to look strange? (I'm a newbie)
In case it matters, I have:
very fair skin
"sea-colored" eyes (bluish/greyish/greenish)
dark brown hair
I'm so jealous of those girls with full, visible lids & high, arched eyebrows... sigh. =(
Anyway, thanks, people!

Use a shimmery eye shadow and bring the shadow out to the sides of your eyes on your lids to make the cat eye effect.
It makes your eyes look larger and shimmer is beautiful.
Since you are a newbie, start with a light bronze, soft green or baby blue. Even a white irradescent will look great!
Good luck.

Of course there is! Try light pastels and shimmery colors- these tend to make eyelids look bigger and great. I would dust a light pink or taupe all up to your brows then on your lid use a slightly darker color. I have a similar skin tone and that usually looks good on me.
If your feeling adventurous, on the outer corner of your lid use an even darker shade. This makes your eyes look more open and awake. This is how the stars do their makeup.
Finish the look on with a coat of brown mascara (don't use black! It will look awful on your coloring).
For brands try "Jane" eyeshadow (from walmart) if your on a tight budget, and lancome or MAC (department store) if you have a more open budget. Mascara works fine from Maybelline, or Lanceome if you have money.
Good luck! Eyeshadows tough at first, but don't give up!

I have the same problem, and even the same skin tone, eyes and hair that you do. I cover my entire lid with a flat cream-colored base. I then apply a light acorn color from my inner eye up in a diagonal to my outer brow line and the lid beneath this line. At the crease I apply a dark brown, and then apply white to my lid below the crease, as well as a very thin line just beneath my inner brow. It makes my eyes "pop" and really draws attention to my eyes, not my lids.

First of all, consider getting your eyebrows waxed if you haven't already. If you have, or need more immediate help, try these tips:
buy smaller eyeshadow brushes (like those for little girls) or use the sponge type of applicator if you don't already
keep it simple. stick to one or two colors, or else your eyelids will look even smaller.
sweep a little bit of white (or very lightly colored) eyeshadow on your browbone, right underneath your eyebrow. Then, put a slightly darker color right where your eye creases. If you use a dark brown for your crease, it will tie into your hair and look gorgeous. good luck!

Dear Reader,
Nikki has the same problem, same eye color too! Eye shadow would be good for you! Make sure it's bright colors though, to draw more attention to your eyelids and make them seem fuller. Use bright blues, blue-purple mixes, bright pinks, other shiny and bright colors. Wear mascera too! It will definatly help, trust us! And application? put the eyeshadow on the tip and lightly bush it over, better yet... close one eye, put eyeshadow on, and then do the other eye?

there are several websites that seem to say the same thing: use bright or light colors. as far as applying the eyeshadow, it would depend on what how your eyes are set, close far, etc. but there shouldnt be any reason you cant wear color!!!

Use a highlighting color (lighter, maybe shimmery color) over your whole lid. Then just above your crease, use a midtone color (a darker color). Here's a link to help explain better.

I would just put a neutral color on there like pink or brown and rely mostly on mascara. Dont use liner it will make your eyes appear smaller.
