Sure, the U.S. was showing off. But all countries try to show off. The U.S. was able to show off in this particular way--and no others have been able--because the U.S. is the only one rich enough. (And THAT is because we have a free market.)

Cause US and Russia were the only countries to have advanced enough space programs. When US annonce the landing, Russia decided not to try.

It was an easy way to bilk the stupid taxpayer out of billions of dollars for nothing in return except a bigger more intrusive government. Keep in mind we are now 9 trillion dollars in debt.

Because the only point of landing a man on the moon was to prove that the US/Soviet union was better. The US won, so there was therefore no more point in sending men to the moon.

Who said they are. Recently NASA lost the all tapes that can prove to a certain extent that they are. At that point in time the Russians and the US were at a race to get there first. I am not pulling your leg! The NASA last week admitted all tapes were lost from the archive or even stolen!
