Off the coast of Whitley Bay. The survivors of this strange Race settled in the local area & became Geordies. The stories about Jocks climbing over Hadrian's wall and having sex with pigs are pure fantasy & old wives tales.

No-one has "proved" where it was. Plato drew on records kept in the Library of Alexandria that were destroyed c300 years after his time. He describes its shape and says it was "beyond the Pillars of Hercules" ie west of the Straits of Gibraltar - in the Atlantic, which got its name from Atlantis. Other cognate words are atlatl, the pre-Columbian name for a throwing-spear and Atlas, the mountains in Morocco. So in my opinion the most probable answer is that the Canary Islands are the surviving peaks of what was Atlantis.
Certainly Thera was destroyed by a volcanic eruption (which also caused massive tsunami damage to the N coast of Crete), but that does not make it Atlantis. Plato knew where Thera was and it does not make sense to me that he would have called it by another name.

Atlantis refers to the ancient pre-Hellenic civilization of Minos and Thera, in the Mediterranean/Aegean Sea. It was destroyed in 1640 BC by a supervolcano eruption on Santorini. Plato was one who scribed the story for history. Solon was another. Both of them were getting their information from earlier written sources and from folklore. Lots of fiction was probably written concerning Atlantis; it would have been a logical focus for adventurous speculation and storytelling, as Mars would become centuries later. But the existence of the Minoan civilization is real history, and that is the civilization which Plato called "Atlantis."

It didn't exist! it was something plato made up. Jeez. Some like to tie it to Thera, but that theory has pretty much bitten the dust. I won't even go into the details; those who want to believe in atlantis will not let evidence or the lack thereof sway them.

I like the idea that it is South America. There were tons of civilisations on South America that came and went and most had access to islands off the cost of Africa. Maybe one of these civilisations was the root of the Atlantis stories.

It was created in a fictional tale told by a greek philosopher it may have been Plato. Anyway, the story then got out of hand and gullible people are still being fished in.
