I had my daughter a week ago, and have had terrible headaches and backaches since I came home from the hospital.I have been taking 800mg of Ibuprofen and 5/500 vicoden, and NOTHING helps! I can't stand the pain, and will be going back to the Dr in the am..
Has anyone had this happen to them, and if so, what type of treatment did you get for it?

Yes, I forgot to add that I did in fact have an epidural...I called and spoke with my Dr simply because I can'y stand the pain anymore..He said the epidural could have left a hole in my dura, and has made an appointment for me in the am with the anesthesia dept..He said they may have to do a blood patch? He said it is where they draw about 20cc of blood aout of your arm, and then insert it into your back like the epidural is done, he said it should stop the pain almost immediately..Please pray for me, that this helps...As far as my newborn, she is a blessing, and already sleeps thru the night. So I am getting enough sleep, It has to be from the epidural!.Thank goodness I had a tubal ligation after she was born!
NO MORE BABIES FOR ME!

This is normal...dont worry too much, remember that you're tired, a new baby is pretty hard work, the pain in the back could be your pain medication while at the delivery room or your epi, if you get one, the headache, the lack of sleep....take it easy and enjoy your baby.

I agree, it could be the epidural, or, it could be lack of sleep, coupled with walking or rocking a baby for hours. It is hard to say since we don't know what it has been like for you, but you would be amazed what exhaustion does to you! I am glad you are seeing the Dr. 5 vicodin is ALOT! Congratulations, and get some rest!

I have had backaches since having my first child 9 yrs ago side effects from the epidural I guess... I have constant headaches but I don't think it was from the birth or epidural! Congrats on your little girl!

If your headaches seem to get worse after you take the vicoden, you're probably having a reaction to it! I had the EXACT same problem. (And after taking vicoden 2 times, it didn;t work on pain anymore) Ask them to change the pain meds - try Darvocet. That's what I take instead of Vicoden. No headaches, doesn't knock me out, but takes most of the pain away.

The back pain may be a bladder or UTI infection, I had that too after giving birth! You may need to go on antibiotics.

If you had an epidural, it can cause these symptoms. It will go away (hopefully sooner rather than later), hang in there! Try to sleep as much as you can to escape the pain and maybe your doctor can give you something stronger to help!

It could be from the epidural...call Labor and Delivery at the hospital and speak to a nurse

no, but I wouldn't wait for the doctor. I'd go to emerg immediately. It could just be from the epidural(probably) but don't take any chances. If vicodin doesn't take the pain away, its serious.

The headaches and backaches might be the side-effect of the epidural, if you have had one during labor. Congrats on your bungle of joy.
